My Hilarious Hunt for the Three Notched Keys in Genshin Impact's Fatui Lair
Explore the Fatui Phlogiston Extraction Research Center in Teyvat and discover how to find all three Keys With Notches in this thrilling guide.
Alright, fellow traveler, strap in because I’m about to recount my adventure in the Fatui Phlogiston Extraction Research Center, which felt less like a scientific facility and more like a badly run zoo where the keepers are also the villains. It’s 2025, and I thought I’d seen it all in Teyvat, but stumbling into this hidden cave south of the Blazing Ruins Domain proved me wrong. The Fatui are up to their old tricks again, but this time, they’re messing with Natlan’s adorable Saurians, and I couldn’t just stand by. My mission? To find three Keys With Notches, free the captive creatures, and hopefully snag some shiny loot along the way. Let me tell you, it was a rollercoaster of gliding, fighting, and puzzling that left me laughing at how convoluted evil schemes can be.
🔑 Locating the Extraction Research Center: My Sneaky Entry
First things first, I had to find this secret lab. I teleported to the Blazing Ruins Domain and headed south, where I spotted a bunch of Fatuis loitering around like bored security guards. After swiftly defeating them (they went down easier than a house of cards in a hurricane), I grabbed a Common chest. Following the path led me into the Extraction Research Center: Passage, where more enemies tried to ambush me. Seriously, these guys have the subtlety of a bull in a china shop. I cleared them out, snagged an Exquisite chest, and then glided down into the Experimental Site.
Freeing the First Saurian: Key With Frontal Notches
As soon as I landed, I saw two Fatuis guarding a Common chest. I made quick work of them and found the first key, the Key With Frontal Notches. Using it was straightforward—I unlocked the Saurian Cart to the east and freed a Yumkasauri. That little guy looked as relieved as a cat freed from a cardboard box. One down, two to go!
⚙️ The Second Key: A Blue Ball Bonanza
Next up was the Key With Centered Notches, located south of the Fatui’s Extraction Machine. This part required some finesse. I continued down the cave, transformed into Yumkasauri (which felt as natural as wearing a comfy onesie), grabbed a blue ball from the lava, and threw it at a door mechanism to open it.
Then, I headed toward the Extraction Machine, defeated the Fatuis there, and climbed stairs to find more guards protecting an Exquisite chest. Inside was the second key! I used it to unlock another Saurian Cart and scored a Precious chest. Easy peasy, right? Well, not so fast.
The Final Key: A Puzzle Fit for a Mad Scientist
The last key, the Key With Rear Notches, was a doozy. It involved more steps than assembling IKEA furniture without instructions. Here’s what I had to do:
-
Go west of the previous chest, defeat Fatuis, and grab a Common chest.
-
Transform into Yumkasauri again and jump to the east.
-
Catch a Tepetlisauri drilling in the ground—it was as elusive as a whisper in a windstorm.
-
Grab a Grappling Hook, place it on a box, and use Yumkasauri’s skill to pull it.
-
Take a blue ball and place it on the Extraction Machine’s mechanism.

This opened a new entrance. After defeating the enemies that poured out, I entered and:
-
Went to the Saurian Cart, climbed stairs, and transformed into Yumkasauri.
-
Used its skill to reach a hanging cage with another blue ball.
-
Placed the ball on a mechanism by a tent, opened a door, and repeated the process on the other side.
-
Finally, turned the machine handle and defended against Fatuis for 60 seconds—a minute that felt longer than waiting for a pizza delivery.
A Luxurious chest spawned with the key and a Shattered Night Jade.
I unlocked the last cart in the southwestern room, freeing a Koholasaur, and earned the Righteous Resistance Achievement. What a ride! This quest was a blast, mixing combat, puzzles, and a touch of chaos. If you’re diving in, bring patience and a sense of humor—you’ll need both.
